Live Big. Give Big. Love Big
A pedal-powered global odyssey of kindness, contribution and connection
How do you respond to a random act of kindness?
What would be the effects of practicing kindness over an extended period of time?
Entrepreneur Jamie Bianchini hit rock bottom in 1999—bankruptcy, broken relationships, poor health. Searching for truth and connection in our world, he departs on an 8-year, 81-country odyssey practicing random acts of kindness every day. He pilots a tandem bicycle solo and invites total strangers to pedal along on the back seat as his guests. At first, his daily gestures of kindness are simple--sharing his cycling and camping gear, free meals and accommodation, a bus ticket back home at the end of their journey. But as his bike rolls forward, something begins to change.

The Journey |
Pedaling through Japan, China and into the Himalaya Mountains, his childlike spirit of kindness, trust, curiosity, openness and vulnerability prove key ingredients to break through language and religious barriers. Jamie observes a powerful common thread of all human beings—reciprocity. He was receiving the energy he was emanating, often tenfold. Whenever adversity struck—sicknesses in Japan, a bike theft in China, challenging weather in Tibet—total strangers were always there to care for him as if he was family.

This reciprocity of kindness and compassion inspires him to increase his of service in his global community. Pedaling down to Nepal and India, now with regular orphanage and school visits on rest days, Jamie begins to experiences first hand the irrefutable law of “Giver’s Gain”. The more energy he put into being of service to others, the better he felt and the more he observed events in his life reflecting his most grand desires.

Giver's Gain: a 7-day ride with Nepalese friend |
Meditations in the ashrams of India awaken a sense of connection to a nurturing global family, inspiring further community service from Cambodia to Indonesia. After finishing the first stage through Fiji, New Zealand and Australia, his conviction grows into a new expedition motto “Live Big. Give Big”. Thus the karmic odyssey was launched.
His daily Give Big intentions of increased contribution to mankind manifest into over a dozen grassroots charity projects. From providing 100 free bikes in South Africa, to delivering life-saving Malaria medication to remote villages in Zambia, to helping a rider in Kenya finish high school to cofounding a school for AIDS orphans in Uganda.
Jamie uses his “Giving Radar” to search daily for ways to increase happiness and reduce suffering. And he does it all while professionally self-documenting the expedition to reduce fear and inspire global collaboration. As he rides through Mali and Ghana he marvels at the effects of “Giver’s Gain”: 95% positive experiences, a violence-free tour, protection from disease, regular tailwinds and sunshine, countless home stays, rich cultural experiences and an endless stream of positive new guest riders.

But adversity finally arrives. While suffering from pneumonia in Senegal and Mauritania Jamie reflects on the negative power of low self esteem, shame and guilt in attracting horrific experiences. From his hospital bed in Morocco Jamie realizes a key daily intention in his motto is missing: Love. On his 26-country European tour, the daily intentions of “Live Big. Give Big. Love Big.” manifest a profound, life-changing expedition. After connecting with over 1,000 riders Jamie returns home through Latin America a better man, friend and new father, ready to share his story with others.
