Stage 1: Funky Freek Fest Halloween Ride

San Francisco to Santa Cruz, 2 Days, 79 Miles

October 29-31, 2010

Summary: A special Halloween weekend 2-wheeled extravaganza for intermediate to advanced riders along the ocean from San Francisco to Half Moon Bay then to Santa Cruz. Come in bright costumes to keep you safe and to spread the good vibe!
Musical Guest: To Be Announced. Musicians welcome!

October 29th: San Francisco, Peace Ride kickoff party. Tentative Location: Beach Chalet, 1000 Great Highway. Celebrating the arrival back home of Bay Area native Jamie on his 84th country. He'll be riding in from Canada. The party kicks off the 1st Annual Peace Ride. We'll screen an amazing video of the journey! Jamie & crew will be at the Beach Motel, just steps from the party. Book rooms early!

October 30th: Freek Fest Ride to Half Moon Bay State Park, 31 miles. Or bring your guitar and instruments in the Mobile Base Camp. Jamie will be departing with his first guest rider (who will it be?) at about 9AM from the Beach Chalet.


Ride Difficulty: Intermediate, experienced riders. Fast moving traffic at times, narrow roads.

October 31: Halloween Freek Fest Rides. Ride a full 48 miles fro Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz or 12 mile afternoon fun ride from Davenport to the Santa Cruz. We'll have lunch in Davenport from 12-2 followed by a short, funky Halloween ride with Santa Cruz residents to a welcome BBQ, music & video screening sponsored by The Bike Trip at 1001 Soquel Ave. Everyone is welcome and funds will go to various Peace Pedalers charities. Home stays available via couchsurfing.org or arrange accommodation for Halloween in Santa Cruz. Get funky!


Ride Difficulty: Moderate. Intermediate or well trained and practiced beginners. Wider lanes than day 1.

Nov 1st: Rest day. A short 7-mile scenic ride to New Brighton State Beach group campsite #G003. Rest & recovery, surfing, hammocking. A great place to arrange ride shares back to San Francisco too.

Stage 2: Bay Blessings to Big Sur

Capitola to Big Sur, 2 Days of Riding,
71 Miles
November 2-4th, 2010

Summary: A intermediate to advanced level ride along the coast of the beautiful Monterey Bay then carrying on to the breathtaking Big Sur State Park.

Nov 2: Early morning 41 mile ride from New Brighton to Monterey. We will depart at 8AM from New Brighton State Park, campsite G003. Lunch in town and afternoon to enjoy Monterey, aquarium, restaurants. Camping at Veterans Memorial Park. Website here.



Nov 3rd: A short yet challenging 30 mile ride from Vets Memorial to the stunning Big Sur. Camping at Andrew Molera State Park. Cabins available nearby too.



Nov 4th: Day off in Big Sur for hiking, surfing, mountain biking and relaxing. Camping at Andrew Molera State Park. Cabins are nearby too.

Stage 3: Happy Hills n Hot Springs

Big Sur to San Luis Obisbo, 3 Days of Riding, 114 Miles

November 5-7th, 2010

Summary: An advanced level ride in the hilliest part of the California Peace Ride. The scenery is stunning but you’ll need to be fit to tackle the endless hills. You can dump some weight in the Mobile Base Camp if help pay some gas, buy some food and do some cooking.

Nov. 5th: A super hilly yet stunning 34-mile ride from Big Sur to Plaskett. Camping at Plaskett Creek Campground to rest our weary bones.



Nov 6th: The hills continue on the 35-mile ride from Plaskett to San Simeon. Camping at San Simeon State Park in the Hike and Bike Campground.



Nov 7th: Rise and shine as we begin our inland stage of the ride taking us on a rolling 45 mile ride from San Simeon to Avila Hot Springs Resort. We will follow the coast route through Morro Bay , then head inland on Los Ossos Valley Road into San Luis Obisbo. Avila Hot Springs is just outside of town on the way to Avila Beach. Camping, Cabins and Natural Hot Springs are available here. www.avilahotsprings.com

Nov 8th: Deserved day of R&R. Jamie will put on a video presentation in San Luis Obisbo, and time for relaxing at the Avila Resort, beach time at Avila Beach, or hanging out in SLO.

Stage 4: Cruisin' the Central Coast

San Luis Obisbo to Santa Barbara, 3 Days of Riding, 123 Miles

November 9-11th, 2010

Summary: An intermediate level ride from the hot springs of San Luis to the lovely Carpenteria State Beach in Santa Barbara. The crazy hills are behind us so being in great shape is not much of an issue.

Nov 9th: After breakfast we'll depart from Avila Hot Springs and ride 51 miles to Lompoc, staying at the River Park Campground located Hwy 246 & Sweeney Rd. (805) 740-0288. Campground Website  

Nov 10th: Early morning start as we head back towards the coast for a 25 mile ride to Gaviota State Park (805) 968-1033 Website Late afternoon surf session and hanging out at the beach.

Nov 11th: From Gaviota we head down the coast of 47 miles through Santa Barbara to the lovely Carpenteria State Beach (805) 968-1033 Website Staying at the Hike n Bike campsite.

Nov 12th: Another day of R & R in Carpenteria surfing, beaching, and BBQ-ing. In the evening Jamie will screen a multimedia presentation in Santa Barbara, location to be determined.

Stage 5: Veering towards Venice

Santa Barbara to Venice Beach, 2 Days of Riding, 79 Miles

November 13-14th, 2010

Summary: A intermediate level ride to the stunning Leo Carillo State Beach campground onwards to funky town of Venice Beach.

Nov 13th: Today we'll get up early for a 48 mile ride from Carpenteria State Beach to Leo Carillo State Beach. We'll stay in the Hike and Bike campsite. Info at www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=616

Nov 14th: Today we'll do a short 31 mile ride from Leo Carillo to Venice Beach where we'll hang out and soak up the vibe at the Venice Beach Hostel in Venice (310) 452-3052 Website . The hostel is located within 1 block of the beach in the heart of Venice.

Nov 15th: A day off to enjoy the beach and the sites and sounds of Venice. Jamie will give a multimedia presentation that evening. Location to be determined.

Stage 6: A Smooth Landing

Venice to Ocean Beach, San Diego, 3 Days Riding, 2 Chillin', 136 Miles

November 16-20th, 2010

Summary: This is the most chillin' stage of the Peace Ride with rest days in between the rides so no excuses! There's nothing too serious in the hill department. We hope to have plenty of friends, family and former Peace Pedalers' Guest Riders out for this stage. So dust off the bike, book your flights and hotels, and contact us to come play!

Nov 16th: Today we ride south 50 miles from Venice to Huntington Beach Pier. Tonight will be spent at one of the many hotels in the area along with wining and dining in any of the area restaurants and bars.

Nov 17th: After last night we’ll need today to recover and prepare for the final 2 legs of our ride to San Diego. You can spend  the afternoon relaxing at the beach and possibly getting in a surf session. Take it easy tonight because tomorrow is a long day!

Nov 18th: We'll get an 8AM start for a long 60-mile day from the Huntington Beach Pier to South Carlsbad State Beach in Carlsbad  http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=660. We’ll be spending today and tomorrow here for more beach activities, BBQ-ing, surfing and connecting with friends and family from around the world! We have four ocean view camp sites booked (206, 207, 208 & 209) with great views, enough for 24 people! If it's full, let us know and we'll let ya share if your nice and chip in on the fun and expenses. You need to let us know you're coming in advance, please.

Nov 19th: A day of surf, relaxation & fun in Carlsbad. Got kids or feeling like one? Legoland is nearby.

Nov 20th: After 8.5 years and 84 countries this is the final day of the Peace Pedalers expedition. Come one, come all, and pedal for peace on an easy 26 mile fun ride from South Carlsbad State Park to our final party at Ocean Beach in San Diego. We're calling it San Diego Peace Day and we'll have live music, food and fun in Ocean Beach starting at 1PM. Book your hotel early at Ocean Beach Hotel as space is limited. The party is on the grass near the beach north of the lifeguard station. Watch for balloons.

SAN FRANCISCO LAUNCH PARTY: On Friday the 29th of October join us at the Cliff House Restaurant for a free screening of our short film through 80 countries in 20 minutes followed by music, food and drinks. The following day starts the California Peace Ride!

SANTA CRUZ FREEK FEST PARTY: On Halloween evening join us for a screening, food and Halloween party in Santa Cruz ending our first of six stages. Location to be announced.

SAN DIEGO: The Big Bash celebrating the completion of the Peace Pedalers expedition with:


Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Ocean Beach. We'll be on the grass north of the lifeguard station. Lunch at 1Pm to welcome riders from the last day of the California Peace Ride.

Live music, yummy food and great people from around the world through sunset. Benefiting Good Hope School for AIDS orphans Uganda and Operation Agua in Bolivia.
