About Peace Paddlers

I learned to surf while out riding in Indonesia. A total stranger let me use his surfboard and introduced me to the magic of surfing. Since then I've been hooked and the route of Peace Pedalers has always been near the ocean. I'll never forget the man Thomas from the Netherlands who let me borrow the board. Through his kindness and trust my life was changed for the better. I now have a love and respect for the ocean, and love to play in her waves.

Starting in Ghana in November, 2007 and heading all the way to Morocco I will be mostly by the coast. In Europe and the Americas the route will take me by the ocean as much as possible. So I decided to take the sharing and connecting energy of Peace Pedalers and increase the scope a bit with Peace Paddlers! The project is in development, but we are starting out by bringing a few surfboards, with the support of North American Airlines, to our starting point of Ghana. We'll donate a few to the community around Black Star Surf Shop to get more folks in the water and appreciating and respecting our precious ocean.

From Busua Beach I'll be bringing my own board and likely a boogie board for my guests to get even more people in the water, using the soothing power of the ocean to build and solidify friendships I make on the bike as I pedal on. I'm not sure how it is going to go exactly, but luckily there are not many hills in Ghana, Togo and Benin. We'll see what happens from Senegal to Morocco (far more hilly). See our route of Africa and Europe here and of the Americas here.

Stay tuned. And if you want to get involved, we're looking for some new sponsors and donors of surfing equipment to launch the project.

Over and out from Niger---Far from the surf!

Special Thanks to our Silver Sponsors
